Incident affecting Google Ad Manager

Incident began at 2022-08-31 15:00 and ended at 2022-09-27 21:25 (times are in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)).

Sep 27, 2022 9:25 PM UTC The problem with Google Ad Manager has been resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support. The affected users are able to access Google Ad Manager, but may not have access to the most recent data.

The issue with Ad Manager Reporting stats is now completely fixed with All Reporting Types data being accurately available for the issue duration (August 30th 8:00 PM PDT thru August 31st 5:00PM PDT during) and can be consumed through Ad Manager Reporting Tool or the API.

Please Note:

Regarding UI Summary Stats: Some Line Items may still show small discrepancies between the UI summary stats and the Ad Manager Reporting Tool. This will not be fixed and it only affects Line Items that were active during the main data incident. We recommend Publishers to rely on the Ad Manager Reporting Tool data.

Sep 26, 2022 8:16 PM UTC We are continuing to investigate this issue. We will provide an update by Sep 27, 2022, 9:00 PM UTC detailing when we expect to resolve the problem. The affected users are able to access Google Ad Manager, but may not have access to the most recent data.

Ad Manager Reporting stats remains fixed with all new data since September 1st (PDT) being accurately reported. We are working on correcting the affected data (issue duration: August 30th 8:00 PM PDT thru August 31st 5:00PM PDT). More updates below:

Main Data Fix Update: Reservation data (except for Activities and Conversions data that is still under investigation), PG and PD data in the “Historical” Report type remains fixed and corrected for the issue duration and can be consumed through Ad Manager Reporting Tool or the API.

Backfill data in “Historical” Report type and the AdX Historical report fix is ongoing and the release is in progress. We will provide more details in the next update.

Main Data Fix Update: Reservation data (except for CPD data and Activities and Conversions data that are still under investigation), PG and PD data in the “Historical” Report type is fixed and corrected for the issue duration and can be consumed through Ad Manager Reporting Tool or the API. However, Backfill data in “Historical” Report type and the AdX Historical report fix may take longer and its current completion is still TBD.

Regarding UI Summary Stats: some Line Items will keep showing small discrepancies between the UI summary stats and the Reporting (aka. Query Tool) data even after the data fix is completed - note this will only affect Line Items that were active during the 08/31 PDT incident. We recommend Publishers rely on the Ad Manager Reporting / Query Tool data.

Line Item Pacing Update: The new issue affecting campaign delivery pacing is now resolved. Note this bug only affected Line Items that meet the specific criteria below:

  • Line Item has been active through the 8/31 (PDT) incident and after the 9/13 (PDT) workaround fix.

  • Line Item had one or more of the following specific changes made on or after the 8/31 (PDT) stats incident: date duration, the actual budget goal, and delivery speed.

Additionally: As the fix is out, the serving system started immediately pacing towards the current goal using the current pacing settings. Publishers should ensure their Line Items duration, budget goal, and delivery speed reflect their intentions.

We will provide an update by Sep 23, 2022, 8:00 PM UTC detailing when we expect to resolve the problem. Please note that this resolution time is an estimate and may change. The affected users are able to access Google Ad Manager, but may not have access to the most recent data.

Ad Manager Reporting stats remains fixed with all new data since September 1st (PDT) being accurately reported. We are working on correcting the affected data (issue duration: August 30th 8:00 PM PDT thru August 31st 5:00PM PDT). More updates below:

Main Data Fix Update: we expect to fully resolve all data in the “Historical” Report type – both backfill and reservation by Sept 26th. However the AdX Historical report fix may take longer and its current completion is still TBD.

Workaround Data Fix Update: the 9/13 workaround fix only covers Reservation, PG, PD data. We expect backfill data to be available with the upcoming data fix.

Line Item Pacing Update: it was discovered a separate issue affecting campaign delivery pacing for Line Items that meet the same criteria from the previously fixed budget issue (see details below) – a fix has already been pushed and it is expected to be released by early tomorrow or EOD (PDT).

This issue only affects Line Items that meet the specific criteria below:

  • Line Item has been active through the 8/31 (PDT) incident and after the 9/13 (PDT) workaround fix.

  • Line Item had one or more of the following specific changes made on or after the 8/31 (PDT) stats incident: date duration, the actual budget goal, and delivery speed.

Additionally:

- Once the fix is out, the serving system will start immediately pacing towards the current goal using the current pacing settings. Publishers should ensure their Line Items duration, budget goal, and delivery speed reflect their intentions after the fix and abstain from making changes in the meantime.

- There is no risk of over-delivery for the Line Items that fit the criteria above, only under-delivery.

Sep 22, 2022 2:50 PM UTC We're investigating reports of an issue with Google Ad Manager. We will provide more information shortly. The affected users are able to access Google Ad Manager, but may not have access to the most recent data.

Ad Manager Reporting stats remains fixed with all new data since September 1st (PDT) being accurately reported. We are working on correcting the affected data (issue duration: August 30th 8:00 PM PDT thru August 31st 5:00PM PDT). Our current ETA for reporting data fix is Sept 26th due to unforeseen delays in processing the data.

The related issue where a few Publishers noticed some Line Items under-delivering since the August 31st incident (dates may vary) seems to be resurfacing again and Engineering is investigating it.

Note this issue only affected Line Items that meet the criteria below:

- Line Item has been active through the 8/31 (PDT) incident and after the 9/13 (PDT) workaround fix.

- Line Item had one or more of the following specific changes made on or after the 8/31 (PDT) stats incident: date duration, the actual budget goal, and delivery speed.

The related issue where a few Publishers noticed some Line Items under-delivering since the August 31st incident (dates may vary) is now fixed. A fix was released this afternoon (9/20 PDT) to ensure any line items that fit the criteria below are no further impacted.

Note this issue only affected Line Items that meet the criteria below:

  1. Line Item has been active through the 8/31 (PDT) incident and after the 9/13 (PDT) workaround fix.
  2. Line Item had one or more of the following specific changes made on or after the 8/31 (PDT) stats incident: date duration, the actual budget goal, and delivery speed.

Additionally:

- This issue did not impact the temporary workaround launched last week (9/13) to help Publishers finalize their billing/invoicing requirements – the data remains correct.

- For Line Items that are still actively delivering with longer goals, the fix will ensure that delivery / pacing matches the correct 9/13 workaround data fix.

- Engineering will provide a list of impacted Line Items that under-delivered in the next coming days (TBD).

Sep 20, 2022 7:10 PM UTC We are continuing to investigate this issue. We will provide an update by Sep 21, 2022, 7:00 PM UTC detailing when we expect to resolve the problem. The affected users are able to access Google Ad Manager, but are seeing error messages, high latency, and/or other unexpected behavior.

Ad Manager Reporting stats remains fixed with all new data since September 1st (PDT) being accurately reported. We are working on correcting the affected data (issue duration: August 30th 8:00 PM PDT thru August 31st 5:00PM PDT). Our current ETA to have it fixed is September 23rd.

We received reports from multiple Publishers about a few Line Items that under-delivered after August 31st (dates may vary) and Engineering confirmed to be related to this incident and the issue is being resolved. You can find more details below.

The Reporting workaround fix that was introduced on September 13th to mitigate the missing stats for this incident has impacted the budget extractor causing under-delivery in a few Line Items. A Serving fix has been issued and will be released shortly (expected EOD PDT). This issue potentially only affected Line Items that meet these two criteria:

1. Line Item has been active through the 8/31 (PDT) incident and after the 9/13 (PDT) workaround fix.

2. Line Item had one or more of the following specific changes made on or after the 8/31 (PDT) stats incident: date duration, the actual budget goal, and delivery speed.

Some additional notes:

- This issue is not impacting the temporary workaround launched last week (9/13) to help Publishers finalize their billing/invoicing requirements – the data remains correct.

- For Line Items that are still actively delivering with longer goals, the fix will ensure that delivery / pacing matches the correct 9/13 workaround data fix.

- Date, Order, Line item, Creative, Ad server impressions, Ad server clicks, Ad server CPM and CPC revenue.

- Date, Hour, Order, Line item, Ad server impressions, Ad server clicks, Ad server CPM and CPC revenue.

*Please read: adding and/or removing different metrics/dimensions (e.g. Ad Unit) for either of the two report options above, may result in the bad data still being returned throughout the issue duration (August 30th 8:00 PM PDT thru August 31st 5:00PM PDT).

We are working on correcting the affected data (issue duration: ~3:00AM PST thru 6:00PM PST, Aug 31st). If you are a Data Transfer user, some networks are able to pull accurate data through the affected period but we are also aware of issues with the platform that are being investigated separately.

If you are a Data Transfer user, the accurate data through the affected period is reflected there.

Please note some Line Items might currently be showing as underdelivery and/or show "Delivery rate reduced to better match expected pacing" in the Troubleshooting tab' Non-delivery causes. This is caused by some mitigation applied where serving has access to more updated/corrected stats. The UI/Reporting will accordingly reflect this mitigated serving once the stats are fully corrected.

The issue with Ad Manager Reporting stats is no longer ongoing with new data being reported as expected. However, the affected past data still needs to be corrected and Ad Serving impact is still being investigated.

The issue with Google Ad Manager Reporting stats is still ongoing and is affecting more types of reporting than just Historical. Data Transfer continues to show no impact. Ad Serving might be impacted with potential overdelivery on September 1st until it stabilizes.

Google Ad Manager Historical Report stats are showing lower than expected for some networks. There's no clear impact on Serving or Data Transfer at this point.
